Terry Hicks fundraiser

We all saw on our televisions the long-running saga of falsely accused terror suspect, David Hicks. What few saw, however, was the ongoing struggle and sadness that occurred behind the scenes for Hicks’ devoted father, Terry. It was a long six-year battle for Terry that, at many stages, appeared destined for failure.

In an effort to raise funds to support Terry’s cause, Sydney artist, Diarne Wiercinski, painted a moving portrait to be sold on popular online auction site, eBay. With the help of Jeff Purser, founder of Blow, the auction was brought to the attention of media outlets Australia-wide, helping to further spread word of the cause and bring renewed attention to Hicks’ ongoing plight.

It was not long after that David Hicks was finally brought back to our shores, and in 2007 he was finally released.
